Who is Power Trip Wrestling?
Power Trip Wrestling (PTW) are a Luton, Bedfordshire based professional wrestling company that utilises some of the top UK grappling stars; alongside a passion for discovering and giving opportuinity to the sport's upcoming domestic talent. PTW are a family run business that extol the virtues of a fun family friendly product, which is something becoming increasingly rare in the world of professional wrestling. PTW do this, and still keep somewhat of a likeably rebellious approach and slight defiance to them, whilst carrying a reputation for being loud; and not living by the "rules" of the British Wrestling establishment. Power Trip Wrestling are streamed worldwide to watch at HybridEnt.tv, where new content can be watched every Thursday on the website.
Television
PTW have been twice featured on seperate Sky Digital channels, which is quite an achievement considering no direct affiliation with any. In 2008, a documentary entitled "Wrestling with Disablity" was shown on Sky, featuring PTW's disabled wrestler (who is in fact, the only disabled wrestler in the United Kingdom) Dan Edge; about his battle with cerebral palsy and his inspiring achievements in both professional wrestling and life itself. In 2009, a documentary was shown upon PTW's profoundly deaf wrestler, Sean Midnight; and his determination to be a role model for the deaf community all over the UK. Interviews and related media to Sean Midnight and Tracey Kilby, has lead Power Trip Wrestling to be featured on the BBC television programme "See Hear", and also coverage on the official BBC website during 2009. As you will tell from this paragraph, PTW is a company that does not discriminate; if you're considered to have talent, and something to offer the show, then whatever your situation - you'll be given a chance to prove it.
Local Newspapers
As of September 2009, Power Trip Wrestling have now begun their advertising association with the Herald and Post, Luton News, & Dunstable Gazette newspapers. For more information on the newspapers themselves, please visit lutontoday.co.uk, and dunstabletoday.co.uk.
Charity Work
The UK branch of the Make a Wish Foundation have placed Power Trip Wrestling on file to help grant wishes of ill children and teenagers. As you can imagine, all at Power Trip Wrestling are very proud to have this association. In addition to this, all Power Trip Wrestling wrestlers are professionally trained, and we do not agree with children or anyone attempting to recreate or reproduce the actions on our shows. We appreciate the position that we are in, where wrestlers are looked at as 'role models' by and for children and young teenagers; and we want to live up to that in a positive respect. We have done many charity shows for causes such as breast cancer (July 2007), Comic Relief (March 2009), local schools (April 2009); and have also worked with "Wicked!", a film crew based on working with the deaf community; which can be seen on Sky Digital Channel 539 - Virgin Media 233 - Freeview 87.
Travel
As a promotion PTW are always expanding into other areas, with PTW shows having taken place in Stevenage in November 2007, and April 2008, PTW shows taking place on a campsite in the Isle of Sheppey, Kent (both in 2008 and 2009); and three PTW shows having taken place in Yorkshire in 2008. In June 2009, PTW Promoter Petey Staniforth and Dan Edge appeared on BBC Radio Northampton in what was a well received interview; about the fact Power Trip Wrestling shows would be held in Northamptonshire in July 2009, which has already lead to PTW's involvement and participation in Wellingborough's Party in the Park and Carnival outdoor events, Rushden's Party in the Park outdoor event, and fundraising events in Corby. All shows went particularly successfully, were well received by fans and relevant councils, and PTW have been invited back to participate the following year. And in what is something quite groundbreaking, PTW have working relationships with the SHWA (Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance), in Australia, WSA (Wrestling School Austria), in Austria, with UKW (UK Wrestling Experience) in Yorkshire, England, with the UWA (Urban Wrestling Alliance) in North East England; and other promotions worldwide.
Top Talent
Power Trip Wrestling shows have featured wrestlers who have performed at the highest level, such as at the time WWE-contracted superstars Blackjack Phoenix and Lance Malibu, as well as British talent seen on the most-watched wrestling show in the world, WWE Raw;, such as Andy Boy Simmonz who was featured on the programme in 2007. In 2008, PTW have featured European talent such as Roberto 'The Bull' Lequimez and Dr Gangreen, American independent talent such as Al-Jihad (from the New York area); and are always open and accessible for outside talent to come in and work for them, as this is a benefit to all concerned and also the fans! We have also worked with current TNA roster member Brutus Magnus, who is also known as "Oblivion" from the current incarnation of Gladiators on Sky One.
Celebrities
Also in 2008, Power Trip Wrestling undertook their first ever Summer Tour; in July and August, which led to six shows in six weeks taking place on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent; and our return there in the Summer of 2009. These shows have seen PTW working with well known child actor Jay Borthwick of BBC Eastenders; fame. Jay is not our only celebrity friend, as we can also include such names as well known sports & celebrity psychic Dean 'Midas' Maynard, and Luton FC/West Ham United/USA National Team goalkeeper Ian Feuer (who is a close friend of PTW Promoter Petey Staniforth), amongst our fans as well.
Homegrown
PTW proudly displays the best in UK talent, with performers including Jonny Storm, Stixx, El Ligero, Mad Man Manson, and Bingo Ballance having a wider national presence having regularly appeared on Sky Digital; and veterans such as Johnny Kidd and Keith Myatt having a pedigree that extends all the way back to the days of ITV's World of Sport programme. PTW also provides a platform for the promising future stars of British Wrestling, with the likes of Conor Hurley, Scott Annette, G 'The Lap Dancing Superstar', Mason Storm; and others who are more impressive with every passing show.
Many talents
PTW can also boast some unlikely honours, including the aforementioned tour where they worked with BBC Eastenders acting star Jay Borthwick. Other interesting facts include PTW Promoter Petey Staniforth's appearance in Luton Town Football Club's matchday programme (a two page article in December 2008) and his regular column in LTFC's 'half Time Orange' fanzine for the 2009/10 season, Dan Edge having been on the writing team for BBC's 'Holby City', G 'The Ghetto Superstar's acting career, as he has appeared as an extra on 'Eastenders' and 'The Bill', PTW's primary female wrestler, Tiffany Wantsmore, once won an episode of BBC's 'The Weakest Link'; Mikey the Pikey (Jem Brown) has appeared on programmes on Sky One and Bravo, and is a trained stunt man. One thing for sure at Power Trip Wrestling, is that we're not your generic company; we're all some kind of character and have something 'different' about us!
Doing it the right way
We have a strong disapproval of 'backyard' wrestling, and openly encourage anyone wishing to become a part of professional wrestling to actively search for an approved and credible wrestling school. At PTW, we currently recommend one in Northampton, please contact us for more details and information. We also have a fully qualified first aider present at all PTW shows.
